Using AAC Blocks for Manufacturing Building Structures

AAC blocks have made their way into most construction by virtue of being one of the most durable and economical product to hit the construction industry. The precast solutions available to builders are numerous as AAC blocks manufacturing offer various options for the construction sector. Precast solutions in the form of non load bearing panels and walls, make construction a lot easier and quicker. With options offering solutions for virtually most requirements, AAC blocks manufacturing units offer quick erection of buildings and structures that are not just economical, but offer a pleasing façade. Profiled herein are some of the different ways in which precast solutions help in quick completion of structures.

Fast erection of stairwells

Buildings without stairwells are a rarity. However, the construction of staircases take up considerable time and effort as it is a specialised job calling for making allowances in the configuration as the building construction progresses. This time consuming activity will most likely have a bearing on the completion of the building itself as no structure can be considered complete when the stairway remains incomplete. Additionally, stairways are also used for carting construction materials to the upper floors of the building. The use of precast staircases will help to greatly cut down on the time required for construction, while also offering an economical option.

Beams, and columns for structures

The skeletal structure of buildings incorporate beams and columns around which other construction activity proceeds. With precast solutions in beams and columns, it is possible to create the perfect complete structure for commercial buildings in great speed. Offering better stability, and improved resistance to fires, the precast solutions help in constructing a framework around which other precast solutions can be incorporated for quick completion of project with greater durability. Mega projects around the work have been completed in record time through the use of precast solutions and it makes a lot of sense to rely on the same technology and concepts to build superior structures. A combination of various precast solutions can be deployed to get the right design and build a superior structure.

Things to Keep In Mind While Choosing Light Weight Brick

The winds of change sweeping through architecture and construction have replaced heavy construction material with light weight and stronger materials. And the light weight brick has come to replace the traditional heavier bricks in a manner that has revolutionized construction. The light weight bricks have brought down construction timelines, saved the amount of mortar used, while offering superior strength and thermal qualities that protect the occupants of the building. Listed below are a few points that need to be borne in mind while choosing the right light weight brick for your needs.

ISO Certification of manufacturer

ISO certification is an indication of high standards in processes and this will reflect in the quality of the manufactured products.  AAC blocks manufactured by an ISO certified company would offer all the advantages without any dilution whatsoever of the qualities, such as high strength, acoustic properties, thermal insulation, energy efficiency etc.  Most of the parameters required to check the quality of light weight bricks are all factored in the processes that are covered by ISO certification.

Steady supply of raw materials

AAC blocks require raw materials that are by products of thermal plants.  Reputed manufacturers of AAC blocks locate their manufacturing facilities within short distances of thermal plants. This will ensure that they receive a steady supply of raw materials to enable smooth manufacturing processes.  Manufacturers who are unable to source raw materials may have to compromise with available materials and this may reflect on the quality of the output. The choice of light weight blocks over traditional bricks is mainly due to the qualitative difference. Poor raw materials may affect the quality.

Technical knowledge and manufacturing capacity

Manufacturing facilities that have high capacities would follow automated processes. This would be a better choice than small makeshift facilities that manufacture the blocks. AAC blocks require the use of the right processes to ensure that the blocks are state of the art products. The personnel manning the machinery and equipment need to be adequately trained to maintain consistent high standards. Choose AAC blocks from manufacturers who rely on highly trained manpower to man the facility.

AAC blocks have become widely accepted and used in the construction and infrastructure industry because they provide a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to red clay bricks. Reputable companies like Magicrete revolutionized AAC block manufacturing, too, resulting in the ability to produce several products faster and with minimal effort. Magicrete has state of the art AAC block manufacturing facilities that have pioneered the production of green building materials and the use of prefabricated construction technologies. The company has an 800,000 CBM per annum production capacity with two manufacturing units to cover the markets of West India and North India.

Magicrete introduced sustainable AAC block manufacturing to India, too, beginning with their aim to substitute clay bricks with prefabricated construction materials like autoclaved aerated concrete blocks and panels. Red clay bricks come from cultivable soil, which degrades as the material is harvested. AAC blocks recycle fly-ash, the waste that comes from steel manufacturing. Hence, natural resources are spared from being consumed and used in large quantities that may result in endangering forests and the environment.

AAC block manufacturing requires a minimum of 30 percent less energy compared to clay brick production. As a result, it produces less carbon. AAC blocks are lighter than red clay bricks, too, even when they are the same volume. Hence, transportation costs are lower, and the trucks that carry them can have better mileage and require less repairs and maintenance work, leading to further savings. Magicrete is not merely a leader in AAC block manufacturing. Its ISO certified production facilities manufacture environmentally friendly substitutes to cement joints and plasters, too. Very little water is required when building with AAC blocks, and curing time is faster, too. Hence, builders can save resources, time, and money.

Magicrete’s AAC block manufacturing facilities are strategically close to some of India’s thermal power plants to ensure a good supply of raw materials. The plants are far enough from urbanized regions like Delhi, Pune, Surat, and Mumbai for safety. Benefits of Finding High Quality Lightweight Concrete Blocks to Build Your Property

Lightweight blocks are manufactured using water, sand, lime and cement in different proportions. The production process involves the addition of a foaming agent to the mixture that increases the volume of the slurry. This mixture is then molded into lightweight concrete blocks. These lightweight concrete or foam concrete blocks have the strength of cement and yet are lighter than any other construction material.

In addition to being environment-friendly, these high-quality blocks make the construction process quite economical. Here are a few other benefits of these blocks:

·         Thermal Insulation: The blocks are great insulators and perfect for regions that see extreme weather changes. Insulation is an expensive affair and requires a sandwich coating of the whole structure to make it efficient and effective. Lightweight concrete blocks can be used in places where insulation is necessary due to drastic temperature variations and help in lowering construction costs. They also help in reducing the electricity consumption significantly once the building is finished and people start using it.

·         Sound Insulation: Lightweight concrete blocks are the best solution for acoustic problems. It acts as a capable sound barrier and can be used in places that need sound insulation like schools, hospitals, auditoriums, etc. The blocks can be used to make the floor, roof, walls, etc.

·         Water Resistance: The lightweight foam concrete has high resistant to water. This makes the building structure water resistant. These blocks are, thus, great for building foundations, water works, etc. They also work well in areas that see more rainfall.

·         Durability and Strength: The lightweight concrete blocks have been designed to endure heavy loads. Because of this property, they can be used in high-rise buildings, infrastructure projects, and commercial buildings, among others.

·         Environment-Friendly: The process of manufacturing these blocks is eco-friendly. The manufacture of these materials also saves the environment from the harmful impact of cement manufacturing companies that transmit greenhouse gases.

Economical: It is a product with all desirable qualities. Its application lowers the consumption of cement, steel and other expensive construction material. Moreover, the structure created is durable and helps the building owners save on the cost of future maintenance.

Choose Lightweight Concrete Blocks to Build your Property

If you are looking for lightweight concrete blocks for the construction of your property, opt for autoclaved aerated concrete. This material—which is also known as AAC—is an environment-friendly and cost-effective construction material invented in 1923. The use of the AAC can avert CO2 emission by up to 200mn tones.

It’s only recently that more construction companies are taking notice of the advantages of the AAC. Aside from being lightweight—which can help in lowering the need for more construction people—this material also has many other advantages:

  • Speedy construction – Because they are considerably bigger than the usual clay bricks, fewer AAC blocks will be required for construction. This can greatly reduce the time needed for installation. What’s more, lightweight concrete blocks are easy to work with and use. Common tools usually used for wood (like drills and saws) can be used on AAC blocks.

  • Insulation advantage – Due to the makeup of the AAC block, it offers excellent insulation. As the leading walling material of LEED certified constructions, AAC offers a good thermal rating. This material acts as a water barrier and also has a low sound absorption to keep the noise out.

  • High strength – The AAC may be light weight, but its strength is comparable to regular concrete blocks. This material also has an outstanding resistance to fire and earthquake. Since the AAC does not contain organic content, it can offer superb resistance to pests and molds.

  • Cost savings – Weighing less than 80% than conventional bricks, AAC blocks require less support. Construction companies don’t need as much cement and steel to support the deadweight of these blocks. You can further save more money when MagicBond is used for joining the AAC blocks instead of regular cement plaster. This joining material requires less water and only has a curing time of two hours (instead of the usual one week).

Is Dry Mix Mortar a Better Option for Building Purpose?

Mortar is the substance used for joining bricks for wall constructions. Dry mix mortar is an excellent substitute to regular mortar as it offers extremely thin joints. Even if it is a thin-joint adhesive, it possesses high strength attributes. Dry mix mortar requires 35% water to become the “paste” for blocks and does not require any curing, unlike conventional mortar that requires a minimum of seven days. Here are other reasons why dry mix mortar is better for building purposes:

  • High bond strength – Load bearing capacity and overall masonry strength are increased thanks to the high adhesive strength of dry mix mortar, which is 3.4 Mpa—that’s five times stronger than the conventional mortar.
  • No shrinkage cracks – One of the problems with regular mortar is shrinkage cracks. Since dry mix mortar retains water, cracking is not a problem.
  • High thermal insulation – Due to the thin joints offered by dry mix mortar, heat transfer can be prevented.
  • High coverage – Dry mix mortar offers higher volume and lower density—40kgs can cover around 200 to 225 sq. ft.
  • Economical – Thanks to its high coverage quality, dry mix mortar can save money. It requires three times less for application compared to conventional mortar.
  • Zero wastage – With easy application, dry mix mortar can avoid material wastage.
  • Saves time – Construction workers can skip out on jobsite blending; only water is required to work with dry mix mortar. Since dry mix mortar uses tested raw material and computerized mixing, consistent quality can be expected.

Using dry mix mortar is as easy as one, two, and three. One bag must be added with 11 to 14 litres of clean water and then mixed with a stirrer. Workers only need to wet surfaces of blocks before applying dry mix mortar on them. Before stacking another block and applying dry mix mortar evenly, lightly hammer the initial block with a rubber mallet.

Advantages of Using AAC Blocks for Building Your Home

Everybody dreams of having his own house and want to build a place that is not only beautiful but also offers a safe, healthy and calm environment for their family. People often build a home that is loaded with safety and security features, but unfortunately, ignore some of the basic things that they should keep in mind. Some small factors such the material used for building the house, placement of doors and windows for cross ventilation and sunlight, the type of wiring or the paint used, etc. help in creating a much safer and healthier home.

In this post, let’s take a quick look at a few advantages of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) blocks for building your home

Better insulation
AAC blocks are a form of foam concrete that are made from various materials such as fly ash, sand, cement and water, among others. They have, as one of their names (autoclaved cellular concrete) suggests, a cellular type of a structure that allow them to provide better insulation to the building. Not many people are aware, but the quality of materials used has a lot of say in the temperature inside the house. A well-insulated house will not let the outside heat in the summer come inside the building. They keep the interiors cool, making the home a haven for the family. The AAC blocks also help in the winter as the cold air from the outside does not seep into the house through the walls. In addition, a well-insulated house also drastically brings down the electricity bills. Studies show that AAC blocks provide thermal conductivity in all weather, resulting in 30% less energy usage for air conditioning.

Increased structural strength
AAC blocks can carry more weight than traditional bricks and even regular concrete. Considering this with another fact that it is a lighter material than bricks makes AAC the better alternative for building a home. AAC blocks come in various shapes and reduce the number of joints in the house, thereby making the building structurally more strong. In addition, the reduced weight of the buildings makes them safer in times of seismic activity.

Do not absorb moisture
People with medical problems like sinusitis, arthritis, rheumatism or various other ailments that are caused by the quality of the environment and the weather outside, will find it easier to live in a house made from AAC blocks. The reason is because as these blocks don’t absorb moisture, the patients can maintain an air quality that suits them inside the house. Maintaining air quality, of course, has to be done with special products such as air quality filters, temperature sensors, centralised air conditioning, and so on.
